Nate Shaw is a Los Angeles–based director and VFX artist whose work blends fantastically physical creatures with offbeat humor to explore identity and absurdity in everyday life. A visual effects veteran of a raft of YA fantasy and sci-fi films, Marvel blockbusters, and more commercials than you can shake a talking baby at, his visual sensibilities have no limits.
With a background in animation and visual effects, Nate brings a strong visual imagination for the absurd and the fantastical to his storytelling. His debut short film series, including European Vacation and Beach Day 2: Outta This World, featured a reverse mermaid (fish on top, person on bottom) navigating the human world. The series screened at several IRL festivals before cruising the internet, earning a Vimeo Staff Pick and topping Reddit’s front page with over 8 million views.
He’s currently finishing a short film about an artist spiraling into self-doubt who’s visited by a literal butt person. The film is mostly not autobiographical. He’s never been visited by a butt person.
